ShopDev V5 was deployed yesterday. We still have some tweaking and testing to do, but everything looks on track for completion on the 23rd March 2009. I can see that some of you have been registering for a new client panel account. All accounts created between now and 23/03/09 will be marked pending activation. This is done to prevent any purchases before we’ve got everything set-up perfectly. All accounts will be activated on 23/03/09.
Help Desk & Forum
We now have a dedicated Help Desk and forum. The forum contains an extensive list of FAQs and is home to all our documentation. You are required to register for a ShopDev account before you can access the forum. Since all accounts are currently pending activation, the Help Desk and Forum will be unavailable until 23/03/09. For the time being, if you have any questions, please drop me an email.
Will my purchases be assigned to my account?
This is not done automatically. You will first need to register for a new ShopDev account. After you have done so, please open a support ticket with all of your Google Checkout order numbers. We will then manually assign these orders to your account. Obviously, you will not be able to do this until 23/03/09.
Are there any updates to your skins?
We have updated both the Catalyst V4 and Neutrino V4 skins. In order to download the update, you will need to have your purchases assigned to your account (see above). Please note that our CubeCart V4 skins now require your hosting provider to support IonCube encoded scripts. Please see the requirements page
IonCube… Does that mean I won’t be able to edit your skins?
We have only encoded a few PHP files used by our CubeCart V4 skins. Most of these PHP files now work in tandem with template files. For example, the ajaxCart.php file works with an ajaxCart.tpl template file. This means that you now have greater flexibility over the skin. There should be no need to edit the encoded files.
Why do you use a licensing system?
As I’m sure you’re aware, we put an enormous amount of time and effort into designing and developing each and every one of our skins. Nevertheless, this has not deterred some individuals from illegally sharing our hard work. In order to protect our time investment, we need to protect our skins from illegal distribution. Our licensing system allows us to do this.
How does your licensing system work?
Our skins will occasionally “call home” to check the validity of your license. We have worked hard to ensure that this procedure does not noticeably increase the page loading time. Our “Free Trial” licenses have a more harsh licensing policy. Full details are provided in our Forum.
What if your server goes down?
If you are running a free trial license and our server happens to be down at the time your skin calls home, you will not be able to use the skin until our website is up and running again.
If you are running a single usage license and our server happens to be down at the time your skin calls home, your skin will continue to function as normal (as long as you are not attempting to block communications with our licensing server).
Does this mean you’ll be offering free trials?
We will be offering free trials on all of our CubeCart V4 skins. You will be able to try the skin for 7 days. If you decide to purchase a license, you will be able to seamlessly upgrade the skin. You will not loose any modifications made to the skin during the trial period.
Your website isn’t working
If you find that our new website isn’t working, please do post a comment with the page URL and a short description of the problem. We thoroughly tested ShopDev V5 locally before deploying it to the World Wide Web. However, the deployment process could potentially play havoc with URLs in particular.
Do you have a mailing list?
If you registered for our old newsletter, you will need to register again in order to continue to receive updates. The registration form is provided on our homepage.
